PURA VIDA, COSTA RICA!

When they say “Pura Vida” in Costa Rica, it means “live a genuinely good life” and the island definitely lives up to its motto. For me, Costa Rica was one of those “eat, pray, love” solo trips. Perhaps it was the New York winter or the new, repetitive 9-5 life, or my cost-benefit analysis of life in NY at the time or the combination of all three, but I knew that I needed to go to a warm, unfamiliar place for a while for some deep reflection. For six days, I travelled between La Fortuna and San Jose, ate more empanadas and fish than is probably advisable, meditated by a volcano, prayed, ran, hiked, almost drowned…twice, went on a zipline 14 times, made friends between the ages of 25 and 62, got a massage in a treehouse spa, and most importantly practiced honest and reflective self-care.

The culture in Costa Rica is vibrant, unlike any other that I have ever seen. Everyone is determined to live a good life, according to their personal definition of a good life. While there is a bustling economic scene in San Jose, there is also a sense of serenity that falls over the area in the evening. Between the mountains or the lush rainforests in Costa Rica, there is always an opportunity for you to run away from the hustle and bustle in the city and hide in nature for a couple of days without anyone judging you. In fact, people expect you to take some reflective time in order to really live a good life. From the delicious local cuisine (heavily influenced by Spanish cuisine) to the easy access to the well-preserved natural hideouts and the spas on every corner in La Fortuna, there is no way you would not think about relocating to this rainy, calm country just to unwind (even if it’s just for a few days).

If (When) I go to Costa Rica again, I would

  • Eat: only at local restaurants and food stands. Also, eat the locally made chocolate. Costa Rica is known for its delicious dark chocolate.
  • Drink: local Costa Rican coffee. Trust me on this one.
  • Stay: at the Los Lagos Resorts and Spa in La Fortuna. This is not a sponsored post, but I highly recommend this place due to its location, facilities, and the incredible staff.
  • Repeat: hiking to the many remote waterfalls, taking the zip line route over the Los Lagos Resorts, staying out till sunrise in La Fortuna.
  • Remember: to take red taxis in La Fortuna (safer) and to take ubers in San Jose (cheaper than red taxis)

A huge thank-you to the crew at Los Lagos Resort and Spa for making my stay in La Fortuna memorable! Thanks to the the hospitable locals who opened up their homes and kitchens, I returned to the US with an open mind, a full stomach, and the determination to live pure vida!

Meanwhile, I would be highly appreciative if anybody here at targetdomain could provide me with substitute payment processors/merchants that deal with CBD firms.
